Realising Crafty Dreams.....

Didi and I have been fangirls of Indian weaves and handicrafts since a long time. Over the years along with the Baagh work of KutchTribal Art of Bastar , Kantha sarees of West Bengal, Phulkari dupattas of Punjab,  and many many more, we have been collecting wealth of knowledge about the rich heritage and fine intricacies of the grand theatre of the Indian Handicrafts.

From wearing Khurja pottery pendants, to carrying Rajasthani block printed file folders(no, not the digital folders), from wearing Kalamkari sarees to collecting Madhubani art we have been doing it all. Traveling to different parts of the country and ‘shopping’ for the local crafts and artifacts has been a great pleasure through these years.

Many a times we caught ourselves thinking.. “You know this wall hanging could have been even better, had the artist added this little detail to the piece… “ or “What if they created school bags for kids with Indian weaves and stuff?”.In other words the little gap that we had started to perceive between the objects of Indian crafts and demands of modern living seems to have become a glaring hole today.

So one day we sat thinking… What if we did in a more organized and professional setting the stuff that we’ve been doing for ourselves and for our near-dear ones since forever. What if we can help introduce Indian crafts to the lives of  the modern Indians in more imaginative ways and in new forms? Thus was born the idea of Crafty Hands. It is going to be an initiative where we add some color of our creativity and our personalities to the already vibrant world of Indian arts and crafts.

Hope you enjoy our creations as much as we’ve enjoyed conceptualizing and creating them…
Shall keep you posted about all the new crafts we make….

Watch out this space for more!!
